Michael J. Harrington
Mike joined Synergy in 1995 as an Account Executive, and in 1997 was promoted to the position of Sales Manager. Mike works closely with the sales people and business owners in our affiliate offices. Mike was most recently the Executive Vice President & General Manager, and in 2015 moved to his current position. Prior to joining Synergy, he spent five years with Safeguard Business Systems in direct sales and then sales training and support. Mike holds a BS degree in Marketing from Eastern Illinois University.

David E. Scherer
Chief Financial Officer
Dave is a Certified Public Accountant who joined the Synergy Executive team in 2004. Dave has extensive experience in both Big 4 public accounting at Coopers & Lybrand, as well as private industry. Over the past 25 years, he has been an auditor, controller and CFO in manufacturing, distribution, banking, and service industries. He brings Synergy a strong internal control background including experience in SAS 70 and ISO certification. Dave has a BA in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame.

John H. Gerhab
Vice President of Operations
John started in the PEO industry in 1995 and was a founder of a PEO on the East Coast. There he gained extensive experience in PEO sales, finance, accounting, and operations. Prior to the PEO industry, John held various senior management positions within the insurance industry, including Senior Vice President of a major insurance brokerage operation for ten years and Vice President and Controller for Home Reinsurance Company and a division of Aetna Life & Casualty for 15 years. John holds a BS degree in Accounting from Brooklyn College-City University of New York and is a Certified Internal Auditor. John also was enrolled in the MBA Program at the College of Insurance in New York City.

Matthew S. Jarzynski
Vice President of Human Resources - SPHR
Matt has over 25 years of experience in human resources management and joined Synergy in June 2002 after holding similar positions with two Chicago insurance brokerage companies. He served as vice president of human resources at Near North Insurance and as regional vice president of human resources for the Marsh & McLennan Companies, the world’s largest insurance broker. A native of Chicago, he began his human resources management career at Reliance Insurance, a national property and casualty insurance operation in Philadelphia. A graduate of DePaul University in Chicago with a dual major Bachelor of Arts degree in management and psychology, Matt also holds the certification of senior professional in human resources (SPHR).

Raymond J. Costello
Chief Information Officer
Ray joined Synergy in 2008 after having been the CIO, CTO and VP of IT for several national retailers, a marketing company and a few manufacturers. Ray’s experience with payrolls comes from in-house payroll processing for store personnel spread across states all over the country. He has managed both large and small teams of developers to maintain and customize various software systems on multiple hardware platforms. Ray has led the project to replace and upgrade Synergy’s HRIS systems, and his hands-on approach, I.T. knowledge and creativity have been an excellent fit for Synergy. He holds a B.A. from Judson College in Literature and Philosophy and a B.S. from DeVry Institute for Computer Science for Business.
