After a remarkable career that was influential in the success and longevity of Synergy, Barry Newman is retiring. As one of the company’s longest-tenured employees, Barry most recently served as Senior Human Resources Specialist. He is known for his ability to develop strong relationships with client business owners as well as a long list of internal accomplishments that shaped Synergy.
“As I think about concluding a rewarding career, I want to thank Jon Skulborstad and Dennis Skulborstad, of blessed memory, for giving me the opportunity to utilize my human resources knowledge and skills in an environment where HR is valued as one of the fundamental elements of Synergy’s service model,” shared Barry.
Barry excelled in his current role for the last six years as he provided human resources support to a variety of clients. In effect a traveling HR Director, he regularly visited clients to provide comprehensive on-site guidance in employee relations, labor law compliance, benefits management, conflict resolution, employee development, and much more. Fondly known as the office historian, Barry was known as a resource for those seeking to learn from Synergy’s past wins.
“In addition to being Synergy’s historian, Barry has been a valued co-worker and even more importantly, a friend and advisor over the years,” commented Matt Jarzynski, Vice President of Human Resources. “I will miss his sage counsel and quick wit. Enjoy retirement, Barry!”
In 1995, Barry joined the team as the Director of Employee Relations and Benefits, a role which he held until 2014. In that position he excelled at matters of compliance and benefits, serving as a representative for clients in their dealings with the EEOC and other government agencies. Prior to Synergy, Barry built an impressive HR career. He worked for Dopaco Inc. and Field Container Corporation, and also spent a successful 14 years with the Waldorf Corporation. Throughout these previous experiences, Barry developed a skill set and positive reputation that served Synergy well.
“On behalf of everyone at Synergy, I’d like to thank Barry for his dedication over these last 25 years,” said Mike Harrington, President of Synergy. “We started at this company around the same time, and it’s been an honor to work alongside him all of these years.”
In his retirement, Barry plans to use his skill set to help others and give back to the community. He will volunteer with the Career & Networking Center in Naperville, a nonprofit that helps job seekers create effective resumes, prepare for employment interviews, and optimize their job search.
“It has truly been the best job possible, having had an opportunity to help and guide our client companies and worksite employees,” continued Barry. “I hope I was able to make a difference, and I wish Synergy, our client companies, and all of the employees continued success.”
